About the Book
What if art is magic?
Vi has one dream: to bring the world to life with a career in art, despite her mom pressuring her to go to college for a “real job.” But when she transports to a fantasy realm where her drawings literally come to life, she faces bigger problems. A sorcerer terrorizing the land will use his illustrations to destroy anyone who threatens his plans—including Vi.
The lines between right and wrong blur when Vi realizes she and the sorcerer have more in common than she’d like to think. Somehow she’ll have to face him and find her way home before her pencil—or her life—runs out.
Award-winning writer and artist Adare Elyse presents this fast-paced, intricately illustrated fantastical novella. If you’re looking for a quick getaway to a magical world full of excitement and heart, then this is the story for you. This clean young adult fantasy is great for teens, especially fans of portal fantasy like Chronicles of Narnia.
The Journey
Ever since the original ebook release a year ago (last December), I’ve wanted to add more illustrations and release a paperback. But with wedding plans, honeymoon, moving, and enjoying my new wedded bliss, writing took a place on the back burner.
Then, I had a hope crisis for my writing that sapped my productivity. God challenged me to rest for a while and trust Him to take care of things, which I did. Those months involved wrestling with mindsets that were holding me back. If you didn’t catch my blog post about my journey over that time, you can read it here.
Then around October, I got the go-ahead to resume writing operations. And the first crazy goal that came to mind was to at last release my novella in paperback by the end of the year. Ambitious? Yes. But I went for it!
Getting this book ready to go has been quite an adventure (the kind where you get stuck in mud pits and have to fight off trolls before you reach your destination, also known as relentless technical difficulties and discouragement) but we’re here! I’m grateful that God has continued to provide resources and encouragement just when I wanted to give up so that I could reach this happy day.
